LOCAL FEMALE AVIATORS COMPETING IN CROSS COUNTRY RACE

June 14, 2018

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two local women are competing in the annual Air Race Classic this summer, an all-female air race that takes place over the course of four days.

Taylor Thompson, graduate of Bakersfield Christian High School, will lead Team 'CAU Aviatrix' with Elza Nikita. The two will fly the University's Cessna Skyhawk 172S.

This will be California Aeronautical University's first year participating in the Air Race.

Started by Amelia Earhart in 1929, the 2018 Air Race Classic consists 60 two-person teams from around the country, as well as from five international countries, to fly the perfect cross country.

The cost to participate will require financial assistance to support the racers and allow them to adequately compete.  The team has set a fundraising goal of $10,000 to cover the cost of fuel, lodging and other expenses.
