Up to 70 teams of female pilots will land in North Bay this summer as part of a four-day transcontinental air race taking off from Jackson, Tenn., June 18.
The city's Jack Garland Airport is one of the stops for the 2019 Air Race Classic, which will see all-women teams of two or three pilots fly small planes across 10 U.S. states before hitting the finish line here in Ontario.
Kelly Hewitt, Jack Garland's commercial development manager, says the airport is working with race organizers and local groups, including the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, Wiesflock Aviation and Northern Heights Aviation, to prepare to welcome the racers.
