2020 AIR RACE CLASSIC CANCELED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

April 7, 2020
The Air Race Classic is steeped in history and tradition. Since the first Women's Air Derby in 1929, the race has sought to educate the public about general aviation and women pilots. One of the cornerstones of the race is the emphasis the organization places on safety; for our racers and spectators and for the hundreds of volunteers who devote numerous hours to help ensure its legacy.

This year, for only the second time since World War II, the annual women's cross-country air race will not take place. In 1974, the race was not held due to a national fuel crisis. This year, a global pandemic is grounding the planes and teams that fly the race to test their piloting skill and to promote women aviators.

The ARC Board of Directors, after long consideration and deliberation, has determined it is in the best interests of the safety and well-being for our racers and volunteers that the 2020 Air Race Classic be canceled.
